U.S. Congress decides to take a vacation, AGAIN

Much to my dismay was I to read that the U.S. Congress had elected to go home ONCE AGAIN.  I initially thought I misread the title of the article.  They couldn’t possibly be going on a recess again.  They had just come back from one.  The article states: “Yet lawmakers are heading out of town, after a September session that was on and off for less than two weeks, following a summer recess that ran from Aug. 3 to Sept. 10.  Congress is expected to return Nov. 13.”  Maybe I’m delusional, but it’s BEYOND absurd to take a six week recess because of the upcoming election.

Congress managed to go on vacation without agreements on virtually ANY of the bills proposed to them.  In some cases, even some routine legislation.  What exactly DOES Congress actually do?  Do they even work?  Last time I checked they weren’t elected so that the American populace could fund their vacations.  As

typical of this Congress, they have elected a “Punt action until later” motto.  Instead of solving America’s problems they seem more keen on extending the fiscal crisis until six months from now.  Instead of solving the high U.S. unemployment rate they seem more keen on maintaining their tan lines from their last vacation.

Maybe our congressmen are unaware that there is a looming fiscal cliff glaring at us.  A fiscal cliff that will enact across the board spending cuts if a deal isn’t brokered by year-end.  As our congressmen enjoy their continued rest (it can get tiresome and stressful not accomplishing anything) Americans struggle to stay afloat in the product of their dysfunction.

Alas, Congress was able to come together in a bi-partisan manner to accomplish one thing this week.  On Thursday, they hammered nails on what will become the platform for the presidential inauguration.  Happy to see they are getting along.  Wonder how much it cost us for them to hammer nails.  As you can see in the picture, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and House Speaker John Boehner are having loads of fun.  Who knows maybe they even have a secret crush on each other?  Maybe it is a good idea to go on vacation.  Boehner’s spray tan is starting to fade.  We just can’t have that.  What will the world think of the U.S. Congress if they don’t look good?

The sad reality is that politicians WON’T change unless WE change.

We HAVE to HOLD them ACCOUNTABLE for their inactions and blunders.

Otherwise, they believe that they are doing an adequate job.

So this November, keep in mind what HAS and HAS NOT been accomplished.  Only then can we garner the real change we can believe in.

*I’ve attached the article for those who want to read it.  Interesting and infuriating to read. Unproductive, Congress heads home
