CPS CEO Jean-Claude Brizard resigns
As 50 million people watched the vice-presidential debate, happy news was released by the CPS board. Jean-Claude Brizard, CEO of the CPS board, resigned on Thursday. His resignation went into effect as of Wednesday. As I have stated in previous blogs, the CTU strike was a product of absentee leadership. Brizard decided it prudent to take a vacation weeks prior to a looming deadline. As I requested, he is finally taking a permanent vacation.
Brizard told Dick Vitale, school board president, that he was becoming a distraction. It was becoming more about him than about the kids. His statements pretty much sum up the entire strike. Mr. Brizard you can’t be a distraction if you AREN’T present! Brizard said he has mixed emotions about leaving. He loves Chicago and wanted to help the kids. I don’t buy his statements of “sincerity” one bit.
Brizard will of course be paid his full salary. He will be paid through May. It will be so difficult to sit at home and get paid for doing NOTHING. Oh how will he pass his time? Maybe he can go on vacation again. Hell he could even meet up with our U.S. Congress. As they’ve decided to once again go on vacation. While Boehner works on his tan-line, Brizard can get Pelosi margaritas. The three of them know a great amount about being absent in terms of leadership.
Barbara Byrd-Bennett, a former CEO in the Cleveland school system who has been serving as the interim chief education officer of CPS, will take over the position, effective immediately. Let’s hope Byrd-Bennett at the minimum attempts to do her job. It would be a vast improvement. Heck, maybe Mayor Rahm Emanuel could even take some notes.
Here’s hoping for some real change we can believe in.
